A Homeopath on Steroids, Part 3

The exciting conclusion

It was a big win to have Nux Vomica in my corner after my bout with anterior uveitis (iritis) in 2024. It was a hero remedy that rescued me from steroid withdrawal that was unmanageable; with trembling, anxiety, blood sugar disregulation and sleeplessness.

I began working with a homeopath again right after that point - I had already had an intake set up before I knew I would have iritis and withdrawal.

Working with my new homeopath was good in many ways, but I'm not going to lie, I had 2 recurring bouts of iritis in the last 12 months, and was back on steroids. Nux Vomica was helpful, but the effects of the steroids happened faster and longer this time.

Bout one happened on the 4th of July. I had 2 solid days of intense exposure to the sun, which is one of my favorite things in the world, but after day 2, I was burnt and my eye started feeling the thing it feels when I know I'm getting a flare up. Because of the sun, and it being a holiday where I didn't want to bother my homeopath, I took Bell 200c.

You know I always build in a lesson, right? The lesson here is that it's not always necessary to hammer your vital force with a 200c. Looking back, I suspect a gentle 12c or 30 may have been kinder.

After that dose, things got rapidly worse to where I knew I'd have to start the steroids that night before I could contact my homeopathy in the morning. We tried a few remedies, but in the end I had a trip planned to Colorado for a wedding, so I sucked it up and got on the medicine regime. As I mentioned, the effects started even before tapering. Anxiety, trembling and encocrine issues. I suspect that is why the altitude sickness hit so hard at the summit of Pike's Peak. It was stunning up there but I spend most of my time sitting low to the ground, fighting off faintness and panic.

My next bout was a mere 3 months later. This was really upsetting because I'd never had episodes that close together. I imaged completely loosing the use of my nervous system and being a trembling panicky mess the rest of my life, with blindness in one eye.

This time it's my homepath that wore the hero's cape. She was available and on the job to get me through this. Both my homeopath and I studied the old homeopathic ophthalmology books for clues as to what we needed the remedy to match, and with a couple of ninja moves I can't reveal here*, I made it through this flare up with just 2 drops of steroid total, and an occasional ibuprofen. I had a 100% recovery without the medicine assault to my system. And the remedy that resolved it also addressed facial pain I'd had since these iritis flares started in 2017.

The best part about this win is I have freedom from the fear I've had for years that any time, any where this inflammation may strike and I'll be down for the count and on steroids for weeks. Now, if it flares up, I have my tools ready to go, and I'm even not afraid to use a drop to of steroid to palliate as I work through the process.

The lessons we learn in suffering affect us the deepest. We learn to be more compassionate, more diligent in helping others, and experience greater hope that we can overcome the un-overcome-able. I am grateful for the years I've battled this and the people who have helped me along the way. I am grateful for this amazing medicine and those who've kept it alive for 200+ years. And to be honest, I'm grateful for modern medicine as well. Without the steroid, I'd for sure be blind in one eye and to have been able to avoid that is a great gift.

I'm grateful to no longer be a homeopath on steroids and hope this experience will help me help others gain such freedom.

*An interesting thing to note about the remedies used for this flare up -

The biggest names in homeopathy that are known for iritis like Belladonna, Rhus Tox, and Spigelia have never worked in the past for me. I tried them many times, in many potencies. The ninja moves my homeopath used in my case made the difference and allowed these well chosen remedies to finally act. And I used each of them, one by one with success as we followed my symptoms to resolution. This experience drove the point home that it is essential to assist the vital force in recognizing and removing the constrains that hold us in our disease patterns.
